Refrigerators

Okay. I would like input from anyone and everyone. I think I may have mentioned that we are buying a new fridge because the one we have now will stay here at the request of the buyers. I've been trying to educate myself on all the features etc. When we bought several years ago, we just went with a basic white, top freezer model. It has been great.
All I'm certain of now is that the new one won't be white. (The cabinets are cherry and the other appliances are black.) I know I want a large one...at least 25 cu. feet. (I mean, I'm likely to have this one for the next 10 years, so I might as well buy all the space I can right? Who ever wishes they had a smaller fridge?!!) The main concern I have is what style to go with. If you have a side-by-side, please tell me if you like it or not. It seems that they are the most popular, but I've never had that kind, nor did I grow up with that, so I don't really know the pros and cons...only what I've been able to read about them. Bottom freezers seem to be the new rage, and I like the idea of having the fridge space on top, but the freezers on these seem to be sort of small...Also, there are not as many of these models to choose from and they seem to be the most expensive.

Please help!!

Jen, I have the Whirlpool Gold Conquest from Lowes. Side by side with in-door ice maker (gives much more freezer space). Smudge proof stainless. Black sides. Love it. I do have an extra upright freezer in the garage since I try to keep frozen meals. Ample fridge space except for right when I return from my twice a month grocery trips. It's a tad crowded then.

I've already told you that I really like our fridge although I had nothing to do with picking it out. The fridge space is completely adequate. I really like the added in door storage on the fridge. The freezer has also been adequate for Josh & my usage. I think that in planning for a 10 year fridge, advice from someone like Renee is much more helpful. :-)

Well I grew up with a side by side fridge and I now have one with the freezer on top. The main reason I don't like the side by side units is that you can't get anything really wide into the freezer. This isn't a big deal if you have an additional larger freezer but if it's the only freezer you have...

I looked at those with the freezer on bottom and the only reason I didn't go with those was having to bend over every time I wanted ice. If I could find one that had the ice dispenser in the door higher up I would probably consider one of those . And lastly the thing I really wished I'd gotten was an in door ice dispenser. It is such a pain to have to open the freezer every time I want ice and I'm sure it's not energy efficient.

This post makes me sound like I am obsessed with ice.

I have a side-by-side, and I don't like it because it's narrow and deep for space. Whereas, if you get the top and bottom one, you have wider space which enables you to put large items (like fellowship lunch items :)), and things don't spoil in the back (and you don't know what's stinking). Just my observation. I hope this helps!

P.S. I used Raina's webpage. She let me know about your post because she knows how I feel about my fridge. :)

I wish I could say anything helpful. But, I can't. I hope you enjoy your new fridge - whatever you get. Go to the store and practice putting food in and taking it out!!

I don't have any advice about refrigerators, I'm just posting because I can! FYI- Something else you might want to do is set up the comments with word verification. That way, you won't get robots leaving spam messages (if that becomes a problem). I don't use blogger, so I don't know how to tell you to do it, but I have confidence you can figure it out!

I have a freezer on top and fridge on bottom and I like it. We had a side by side growing up and my mom still has it but she would never buy another one like it. As others have said it is hard to fit large casseroles or platters into a side by side.
Also, I have a water dispenser inside the fridge but we really don't use it. If you don't change or wash the filter often enough the water starts to taste funny so we have a Brita pitcher in the fridge with water in it.

I am really behind on your news. Moving??
Refrigerators?
I have freezer on the bottom and like the added space. Are they all automatic defrost nowdays??
I have noticed they come in about 3 depths. Be sure you have enough depth for your replacement. Measure your width as well, there is a huge difference in outside dimensions as well.
